Even the most pristine jewellery can become tarnished over time. Contributing factors to dulled jewellery can be wearing them while doing routine chores, training, cooking, and even your skin particles.
Luckily, there are several ways that jewellery can be restored back to its original splendour and can be done at home and professionally. Polishing cloths are a classic tool to keep your jewellery sparkling but let’s look at some other ways too.
Professional ways to clean jewellery
Stone tightening. Stone tightening is one method that is used by a professional when cleaning your jewellery. Making sure that the stones fit securely in the setting is important because the prongs can become loose.
Ultrasonic wave cleaning. An ultrasonic wave cleaner uses a cleaner or water to get the dirt out from all of the slight cracks that would be hard to reach otherwise. Fun fact: soundwaves are used by a ultrasonic cleaner to make bubbles which effectively gets the job done.
Steam cleaning. If it is deemed necessary, the piece of jewellery will go through a second cleaning process with a steam cleaner. A high-pressure steam is what does the trick this time around, getting any bits that were left after the first stage of cleaning.
Polishing. Polishing is generally used to remove any marks or scratches on your jewellery. There are many different kinds of polishing cloths made for different materials such as soft metals and rare stones.
Plating. Last but not least, plating is the process of touching up any faded jewellery. For example, if there is an area where the colour on a ring has faded, plating this area will add colour and can also help to preserve it for longer.
Speak to a professional
It is always a good idea to consult a professional if you are unsure what kind of cleaning treatment your piece of jewellery needs.
